i was wondering if you  might know someone who would be interested in the following original Planet of the Apes artifacts,  actually used in the making of the classic  movies.
1) an original wooden gorilla rifle with lead site/bolt
2) a complete closeup Gorilla Soldier costume,  including leather vest, boots with rubber "toes", gloves, purple cloth undergarment (pants and shirt) and leather-trimmed bandolero with carved wood "pouches" - this is not one of those crummy far-background leatherette costumes you see on ebay - this one is all leather and in very fine shape. there is a name tag inside the  undergarment pants - i believe it reads "Tim McH".

3) a complete chimpanzee outfit, including leather trimmed green tunic, pants and hand-shaped shoes. mint condition!

I got these costumes within the last year as part of a whole collection that included other items besides Apes stuff. I am an Apes collector, but already had a gorilla and chimp costume.of course, you can never have too many apes costumes and so i was planning to keep them, but alas, we need some money so it's time to sell some doubles.

both costumes are absolutely authentic with the original costume tags in them. the chimp is in near-pristine shape. there are a few scuffs on the gorilla vest, there are some holes in the fingers of the gloves and the paint is bubbling a bit on one of the boots, but all of these could easily be repaired. i'm looking to get US$5000 for the chimp and US$6000 for the gorilla.

I am looking to buy a gorilla soldier head to toe uniform (including a mask, it has to be a mask since this will be displayed on a mannequin) and  rifle.   you seem to be the expert in the five hours of searching on the web I  have done.  Any suggestions? Is the licensed mask available from Badplanet and other costume outlets any good or is it crappy?  Who else may have an
alternative.  as far as components go, I am more interested in really top-notch repro than original since it would be wearable without worrying about getting damaged.

APEMANIA.COM sounds like the answer to your prayers!  Not only can we connect you with the oodles of people selling ORIGINAL POTA movie items, but if you are on a budget you can assemble your own licensed REPLICA POTA costumes and masks for reasonable prices. Heck, and our stuff even LOOKS like Planet of the Apes characters!!!  Imagine that?   A line of POTA products that actually look like their film counterparts!  Who woulda thought...?

Point one:  Make-up artist Bob Romero (who worked on the first 2 films at least, that I know of) has several original Roddy pieces and Kim pieces, as well as a complete Zira Bust the was made for a display at the 1968 Acadamy Awards Ceremony he is going to be selling sometime after August 24th (he is currently in europe on assignment).  He also told me that he has 2 original holsters (with dummy pistols) and some Last Starfighter items he is looking to unload.
Make-up artist Dan Striepeke has also been openning his closet up this past year to let go of some pretty nice original prosthetics and pull over (stunt and background) masks.   I saw a few of the items that Dan was selling earlier this year and they were VERY well preserved for their age.  I do know that one set of pieces he let go (gorilla, male chimp, and female chimp) fetched over 3G's, so just be aware of what you may expect as more closets get opened up to collectors.

I know that Fox Archives is VERY interested in Mr. Romero's items, especially the Zira bust and the holsters. We'll see what becomes of those pieces when Bob gets back from Europe.

Point Two:   Apemania.com is making available prosthetic kits as well as deluxe pull over masks and economy masks as part of their new line of specialty Planet of the Apes merchandise.

The "new look" for the Apemania website will debut by the end of this week, with a complete line of specialty merchandise licensed by 20th Century Fox.  So stop by and check us out!

On December 17, 1998 I personally contracted with James Gregory, "Ursus" in Beneath the Planet of the Apes, to attach his autograph to ape club >signature edition replicas.  My item for sale is an ape club replica which comes with his autograph attached.  The club prop replica was manufactured by the same Hollywood movie prop company that manufactured sets and props for the movie "Titanic" as well as many other Twentieth Century Fox films.  It is made of alderwood, stained and coated with a gloss finish.  It comes with a real leather strap and James Gregory's autograph with his personal "Go Apes" remark.    The sale price is $60.00.
